SECRETS OF THE CASTLE

A series charting a season at Guedelon, a medieval castle being built from scratch using only historic techniques in rural France.  We explore the engineering and machinery used by 13th century builders including tread wheel cranes to hoist materials, arch and vault technology to create gravity defying ceilings and the blacksmithing and carpentry needed to make strong, defensive doors.  Presented by Ruth Goodman, Peter Ginn and Tom Pinfold.
