We go back inside the gates of Britain’s most loved historic attraction for the fourth and fifth series of this popular observational history show.  We meet the Yeoman Warders – better known as Beefeaters.  When they’re not regaling the public with a thousand years of Tower stories, they’re taking part in everything from parades and ceremonies, to competitive bowls matches – and one of them even gets married.

With the help of Chief Curator Tracy Borman and her colleagues, we peel back the layers of history to reveal fascinating, forgotten tales from the fortress’ archives – from the cunning spymaster who cracked a code and saved Elizabeth I from assassination, to the spectacular downfall of Henry VIII’s righthand man, to the hunt for buried treasure.

The fifth series charts a particularly eventful year at the Tower from its Platinum Jubilee project to fill the moat with 20 million flowers – known as Superbloom – to the Jubilee day itself and one of the saddest events in the history of the fortress, the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
